Patty Mills is worth considering as a fantasy basketball waiver wire pickup heading into Week 9 of the NBA season.
BALLER MOVE: Add in All Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 50% of leagues
ANALYSIS: Whatever it is that is wrong, it is very wrong. I'm talking about fantasy GMs and Patty Mills, yes. Somehow, Mills is rostered in just half of all Yahoo leagues, which let's be honest for a minute, makes no sense at all. That's because Mills is Brooklyn's starting point/shooting guard with Kyrie out for who knows how long, is playing more than a bit, and he's performing to phenomenal extents.
Mills has logged 12 starts in a row through Friday. He's played an average of 34 MPG in those games. He's far from efficient, but that is just because of the hyper-high playing time, folks, so don't get it for what it is not. Mills is shooting 10+ FGA per game and dropping them at a high 40.7% clip this month--in fact, excluding his lone stinker back on Dec. 8 (3-for-11), he'd be at a higher 44.0 FG%. That percentage is great, but it gets better considering Mills has scored at least 1 triple in all but two of his 26 games this season and is dropping an average of 3.4 3MP per game since he became a starter for the Nets.
Of course, playing in the same starting unit as Kevin Durant and James Harden is always going to limit Mills' opportunities (his below-average 15.9% usage rate speaks volumes of that) but he's out there for what the Nets need him: spot-up shooting and the odd dime/rebound/steal. Don't chase Mills expecting much more than that, but count on his high-level buckets and shooting percentages on all fronts--twos, threes, and freebies.
