ANALYSIS: As long as Kyrie Irving remains unvaccinated and thus ineligible to play for the Nets (or he gets traded away in exchange for another point guard), Patty Mills will stay as the main beneficiary of Irving stubborn ways. And things have gotten even tastier of late, as Brooklyn is deploying James Harden at the starting PG slot while starting Mills on a nightly basis as the shooting guard of the squad. And, truth be told, Patty couldn't have performed to better levels of play than those he's reaching these days.
Mills signed with BKN this summer too, we all assumed, come off the pine in the role of a spot-up microwave shooter. And that's what Patty was from Oct. 19 to Nov. 14, his last day as part of the second unit. It's been now five consecutive starts for Mills and only in the first of those games did he fall below 17 points scored (growing pains and adaptation, they call it). In the past four outings, though, Mills is logging a freakish 34+ MPG while scoring an average of 21+ PPG, hitting 5.5 3PM per game, adding 1.5 RPG, dishing out 2.2+ APG, and shooting a ridiculous 61.5% (!!!) from the field on 12 FGA.
There is no way in hell Mills keep up that ridiculous efficiency at shooting the rock, much less when he's adept at attempting long-range shots of which he's hit at least 4 in five of his last six games. Even then, though, Mills is starting games and playing bonafide-starter minutes on a daily basis now. He's a masterful three-point scorer, will put up heavy points effortlessly, and is also an interesting option for those in 9-cat formats given his low 0.8 TO per game (against 2.5 APG on the season).
