BALLER MOVE: Start
POSITIONAL VALUE: Low-End QB1
ANALYSIS: Before 2023, it would have sounded insane to be considering whether or not to start Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes II in fantasy football. But times change. He's just the QB21 on the season (he already had his bye week, but still), and he's not scored 20 fantasy points in a game yet.
NFL conversation I keep having:
Chiefs fan: Chiefs are awesome! 6-0 and we are defending champs!
Me: Yeah, but Mahomes isn’t playing well.
Chiefs fan: How can he play well? We have no offense, our players stink!

The injury to breakout star wide receiver Rashee Rice (knee) that ended his season hasn't helped. The main factor is likely the falloff of tight end Travis Kelce, though. His last elite season coincided directly with Mahomes'. It's been a different Chiefs offense without No. 87 consistently tearing up opposing defenses throughout his Hall-of-Fame-worthy career.
Luckily, Kansas City will face one of the league's softest pass defenses in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 9. Also, the recent trade for DeAndre Hopkins will help, and he should be more involved in the offense. Better days should be ahead in fantasy football for one of the greatest real-life QBs ever.
