BALLER MOVE: Sit in 12+ Team Leagues
POSITIONAL VALUE: TE2
ANALYSIS: Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth hasn’t had the 2023 season he had hoped for. The third-year tight end missed five games because of a hamstring injury. More importantly, the former Penn State star is the TE29 for the year, averaging 6.2 half-point PPR fantasy points per game. He has 21 receptions on 30 targets for 209 receiving yards and zero touchdowns in seven games this season.
However, Freiermuth has been solid since returning from the hamstring injury. Over the past three weeks, he has averaged 4.3 receptions on 5.7 targets for 52 receiving yards and 7.4 fantasy points per game. Last week, the veteran had a 19% target share in the loss to the Arizona Cardinals, finishing higher than Travis Kelce.
Yet, fantasy players should avoid starting him this week. The Steelers face the New England Patriots tomorrow night. New England has surrendered only 6.7 fantasy points per game to tight ends, the fifth-fewest in the NFL. Furthermore, they have given up only one receiving touchdown to tight ends this year, the second-fewest in the league.
