ANALYSIS: I'm tired of this whole "Indiana never tanks" narrative. You tell me what the Pacers are doing if not tanking with their current 13th seed out East and putrid 25-49 record at press time on Saturday. Good for the Pacers, though, is the fact that this season will turn into a lottery pick, and judging by the way Indy has found glitches in the draft matrix when drafted in a top-15 position, that might actually be great news for the navy and yellow. And if that doesn't work, well, you can always rely on stealing afterthoughts from other franchises and putting them in prime positions to succeed. Enter Oshae Brissett.
Brissett, who went undrafted in 2019, signed and played for the Raptors in 2020 appearing in just 19 games for the Northern side before Toronto waived him. Indiana pounced and signed him to a 10-day contract a year ago, then another one, and finally a full-time deal 20 days before he first inked a short contract with Indy. And here we are now, with Brissett starting games on a daily basis for the Pacers while manning the opening left by the Domantas Sabonis franchise-altering trade. It's been 18 starts for Brissett (all of them from Feb. 11 on, obviously) and the young man hasn't disappointed in the very least.
Oshae is playing 30 MPG starting at PF and his average line in the past month-and-change of play reads 12-7-1 with nearly a block (0.9 BPG) on top of everything. Brisset is giving the Pacers tons of points for his low usage rate of 17% and shot volume (barely 10 FGA) while having the contemporary ability to stretch the floor nicely at 1.7 3PM per game since he became a starter. Consider Brissett a classic big man when it comes to the rest of his stats, though, as he mostly produces points, rebounds, and some blocks here and there. The free-throw accuracy has been fantastic in March 92% on 33 FTA, in case you are hurting in that cat.
