Oklahoma, Texas Officially Join the SEC - Schedules, Win Total Projections for the Sooners, Longhorns in 2024 College Football

Steve Sarkisian - College Football Football, Head Coach, Texas

College football has seen all kinds of changes over the last few seasons, and conference re-alignment is one of the hottest topics in the sport. Oklahoma and Texas joining the SEC has been in the works since 2021, but the two schools became official members of the prestigious league on July 1, 2024.

The Southeastern Conference has claimed 13 of the last 18 National Championships, and the additions of the Sooners and Longhorns will only make the league even stronger in all sports. However, football carries the conference's revenue and audience, so let's preview the two former Big 12 schools' schedules and projected win totals in 2024.

Will Oklahoma or Texas compete to win the SEC? Let's see what the experts think.

Oklahoma Sooners 2024 College Football Schedule

After over two decades of high-level football in Norman under Bob Stoops and Lincoln Riley, the Sooners head into the SEC under head coach Brent Venables. OU went 10-3 last season, but former big-time recruit Jackson Arnold will start under center after the departure of veteran Dillon Gabriel. Arnold could be a breakout candidate this season, but it's tough to know what to expect since he has just 69 career passing attempts.

With a weak non-conference schedule, Oklahoma should get out to a 3-0 start. However, its SEC schedule includes Tennessee, Texas, Ole Miss, Missouri, Alabama, and LSU. Good luck!

Texas Longhorns 2024 College Football Schedule

Fresh off a College Football Playoff appearance and a victory over Alabama in 2023, Texas rolls into the SEC with its sights set on winning the conference in Year 1. The Longhorns take a trip to the Big House to face Michigan before SEC play even begins, and Steven Sarkisian's squad will battle Kirby Smart and Georgia just over a month later.

With 12 teams making the playoffs for the first time in 2024, Texas likely needs just 10 wins to enter the dance. They will likely be favored in all games except against Georgia, especially since Michigan's head coach and quarterback from last year are now in the NFL. Quarterback Quinn Ewers is back, making Texas a must-watch program all season long.

26-Oct at Vanderbilt
9-Nov vs. Florida
