ANALYSIS: It's already been three weeks for Rob Gronkowski sitting on the shelf. On the other hand, it's been five games for an O.J. Howard whose importance and value (in both the real and fantasy football worlds) have grown by the week, though not entirely until last week's TNF when he finally broke out for a TE1 performance possible due to Gronk's absence.
Gronk couldn't have had a better start to this season than he did in Weeks 1 and 2 scoring four touchdowns on just 12 receptions for 129 yards overall. Then, Week 3 happened and Gronk only played 62% of the team snaps putting up a season-low 7-4-55 line with no touchdowns for 9.5 PPR points. Howard was still an afterthought back then playing below 20% of the Bucs' offensive snaps. That changed in Week 4 (first game out for Gronk) and has stayed the same until last Thursday, with Howard playing at least 59% of the snaps every single game.
With the playing time higher, though, it is not that Howard was racking up touches and opportunities; Howard put up lines of 1-0-0 (goose egg) and 3-2-19 in W4 and W5 respectively, but he finally exploded in Week 6 with 16.9 PPR points to the tune of a 6-of-7 receptions game for 49 yards and his first and lone TD of the year. Not the easiest to swallow flier, but one to consider in slightly deep leagues while Gronk remains out, however long that is.
