Analysis: Nori Aoki is having quite a season in his first go-around in the Bay Area with the Giants. The 33-year-old outfielder is hitting .313 with a .404 slugging percentage, 24 runs scored and 12 stolen bases. He has enjoyed a little bit of a boost to his average with a slightly higher than normal BABIP (compared to his career average), but some of it is reward for a solid line drive percentage and a low fly ball percentage.
Aoki is outpacing last season's numbers not only in slugging percentage, batting average and OBP, he's also improved in categories where he was already considered relatively elite, like strikeout percentage and contact rate. He's very selective at the plate, knows when to jump all over a first pitch strike, and hardly ever swings at bad pitches outside of the zone. His splits are excellent as well, showing no real weaknesses against left-handed or right-handed pitching. He wont drive a lot of balls out of the park, but he does have a knack for finding a gap in spacious AT&T Park, where he's hit five of his eight doubles. Aoki is definitely worth adding right away.
