ANALYSIS: The Texas Rangers made a very public challenge to veteran second baseman Rougned Odor by calling up prospect Nick Solak last month. Solak is a contender to take Odor's job permanently in 2020, and for now he's doing everything he can to earn regular at-bats down the stretch.
Solak, across 22 games with Texas, is hitting .360/.473/.600 with four home runs, one stolen base and 17 runs scored. He has played some second base but has also served as the designated hitter quite a bit while the team gives Odor one final chance.
Solak had a monstrous season in Triple-A, blasting 27 home runs with 79 runs scored, 74 RBI and five stolen bases between Texas and Tampa Bay. He should continue to get nearly full-time at-bats down the stretch as the non-contending Rangers try to evaluate their future. Solak will continue to get time at DH and could possibly play in the outfield for the last six weeks of the season, which could give him positional versatility.
At this point, I'd be snatching Solak up everywhere so that he can provide some oomph down the stretch.
