Week 7 Tight End Rankings Analysis
I suppose it's a little surprising that Gronk is ahead of Julius Thomas in my rankings. The difference for me is that while Thomas can't get two touchdowns every game, I think Gronk can get 100 yards and a score on a regular basis. Gronk finally looks just about 100%, and he's at 194 yards over his last two games-- a healthy Gronk can maintain that pace. Julius Thomas rarely goes above 60 yards.
Beyond the elite, Jordan Cameron finally had the game I was waiting for last week, and there is no reason he can't repeat against the Jags. Similarly, Jordan Reed came back from injury and looked like the excellent receiver I expected-- start him with confidence. Larry Donnell has been invisible the last two weeks, but should bounce back here as a mismatch against Dallas.
I really like Dwayne Allen against the Bengals, who are currently allowing the most points to opposing tight ends. It will be a tough matchup for Jace Amaro, but he led all tight ends in targets last week, and with the receivers on this team, that doesn't seem like a fluke. I wrote about this in my waiver wire article, but Charles Clay is a gut call. I believe he's better than he's been, and he's due for a score.
In deeper leagues, Josh Hill is a nice gamble. He's the Saints receiving tight end in Graham's absence, and they have shown a willingness to use him in the red zone. Clay Harbor is also an appealing deep-league option. He's had 70 yards or more in two of his last three games, which is pretty good for a TE outside of the top 15.
Good luck in Week 7 RotoBallers!
