BALLER MOVE: Target around pick 90-95 (Current ADP: 125)
ANALYSIS: As many of you are aware, the dynamic Darren Sproles has moved on from the Big Easy, seeking the snowier pastures of Philadelphia. This leaves a big hole in the explosive Saints offense, and a door open for Khiry Robinson.
The departure of Sproles has triggered a change in Sean Payton’s run game, and he has admitted that the Saints will focus on more ball control in 2014. This means that there will be a much more prevalent ground game, and the talented Robinson looks as though he’ll be a big part of it for several reasons. The first is that Pierre Thomas will adopt a Sproles-like role in many of the Saints offensive packages, opening up more rushes for Robinson. He is a far more gifted runner than bruiser Mark Ingram, whose career YPC is less than awe-inspiring. Robinson also has decent pass-catching abilities, and I see him taking some of those snaps away from Thomas as well. Reports from training camp indicate that Robinson has improved his pass-protection game, which is just one more reason he’ll be out there more often.
Ultimately, Robinson’s fate is in his own hands. He can literally run away with the primary running back job if he can take advantage of the opportunities he’ll have in 2014. He’ll be a RB4/5 to start the season with RB3 upside or higher.
