Do you ever look at the AP Poll or some other poll and wonder which college football team they were watching to have them ranked where they do? Me too. We have a feature here at RotoBaller this year in which we will have a rundown of the NCAA college football power rankings every week. This is just like a top-25 poll anywhere else except I probably watch more football than most of them. That's why my rankings are a little different. I don't just automatically anoint Georgia number 1. I get the win streak and the championships. This only has to do with this year so far. As expected, Georgia is quickly moving up the ranks.
This is also going to be far different than traditional polls because I will only look at what has been done on the field so far, not what is expected of a specific team. That had a significant effect on the rankings early in the year, but it is starting to stabilize now. No, Georgia is still not my number-one team. Neither is Michigan. There is no excuse for that weak schedule.
The number of unbeaten teams is now in single digits (seven). Two of those are James Madison and Liberty. We're going to have a lot of teams with losses ranked now.

(25) Toledo (8-1) (NR)
Last week: W 31-13 vs. Buffalo
If only the Rockets hadn't choked away the opener to Illinois...
(24) Liberty (9-0) ⇔
Last week: W 56-30 vs. Louisiana Tech
Liberty has some solid wins, but nothing to really hang their hats on. Not like the win over BYU last year. They won't get one either. Liberty is going to be favored against every team they face from here on out.
(23) James Madison (9-0) ⇔
Last week: W 42-14 at Georgia State
The CFP committee are a bunch of cowards created by a cowardly entity. JMU could compete with any team ranked outside of the top five. I'm not joking.
(22) Tulane (8-1) ⇔
Last week: W 13-10 at East Carolina
Living dangerously is not good when you don't have the marquee wins to back it up.
(21) Arizona (6-3) (NR)
Last week: W 27-10 vs. UCLA
Arizona's losses were in StarkVegas, against Washington, and at USC. Tell me with a straight face that they don't belong here. Wins over Oregon State and UCLA in back-to-back weeks say otherwise. I've been warning you about Arizona for weeks. They're a good team.
(20) Tennessee (7-2) (NR)
Last week: W 59-3 vs. Connecticut
Tennessee has scored 116 points in the last two games. One was against a Pitt team that slowed down Florida State successfully.
(19) Iowa (7-2*) ⇑2
Last week: W 10-7 vs. Northwestern
Ugly wins are still wins. Iowa has perfected this art.
(18) LSU (6-3) ⇓6
Last week: L 28-42 at (10) Alabama
LSU's three losses are better than most team's three toughest games.
(17) Oregon State (7-2) ⇔
Last week: W 26-19 at Colorado
The Beavers are still lurking. I don't trust any slighted team (Oregon State, Oklahoma State, Washington State) in any of these late-season rivalry games that won't be played again for Knute knows how long.
(16) Oklahoma (7-2) ⇓7
Last week: L 24-27 at (25) Oklahoma State
Well, I guess it says something that fans stormed the field and confiscated the goalposts on back-to-back weeks. It means that we used to be somebody. For those of you who still somehow think the NFL is better until Jets fans take down some goalposts and throw them in the Hudson, you ain't sh...
(15) Kansas (7-2) ⇑4
Last week: W 28-21 at Iowa State
Winning in Ames isn't easy. A head-to-head loss against Oklahoma State leaves them behind the Pokes.
(14) Oklahoma State (7-2) ⇑11
Last week: W 27-24 vs. (9) Oklahoma
Yes, that was pass interference on Drake Stoops in the end zone when Oklahoma was forced to settle for a field goal. The fact remains that Oklahoma got the ball back and couldn't go take the win.
(13) Missouri (7-2) ⇔
Last week: L 21-30 at (4) Georgia
Hey, you go to Athens and hang with Georgia. Missouri absolutely deserves to hold their slot after that game.
(12) Utah (7-2) ⇑4
Last week: W 55-3 vs. Arizona State
This says more about Oregon than Utah. Arizona State is still a good team. They looked far from it in this one.
(11) Louisville (8-1) ⇑3
Last week: W 34-3 vs. Virginia Tech
Louisville has wins over Notre Dame and Duke. That isn't quite heavyweight material, but they keep winning when others lose.
(10) Mississippi (8-1) ⇑1
Last week: W 38-35 vs. Texas A&M
The Rebels might have been looking ahead. They are damn lucky A&M didn't steal this game.
(9) Penn State (8-1) ⇓1
Last week: W 51-15 at Maryland
Penn State isn't getting enough respect. Yes, they looked bad against Ohio State. The fair question is, who hasn't?
(8) Alabama (8-1) ⇑2
Last week: 42-28 vs. (12) LSU
If Oregon hadn't looked great, Bama would have jumped farther. Their win is just as good, but Oregon's loss is still better.
(7) Oregon (8-1) ⇑1
Last week: W 63-19 vs. California
Cal is an exciting young team and Oregon made them look like Cal-Poly. If they had played a team with a winning record, they would be ahead of Texas right now. Their wins are almost as good as the Longhorns and the loss is definitely better.
(6) Texas (8-1) ⇔
Last week: W 33-30 vs. Kansas State (OT)
K-State had them beat, but a missed extra point and missed chip-shot field goal in the fourth quarter allowed Texas to force overtime. It ultimately led K-State to go for the win in the first overtime instead of kicking a field goal to go into a second overtime.
(5) Michigan (9-0) ⇔
Last week: W 41-13 vs. Purdue
Michigan is getting fat on cupcakes, which historically does not end well.
(4) Georgia (9-0) ⇔
Last week: W 30-21 vs. (13) Missouri
FSU's win over LSU still has them at third, but just barely. Do I think Georgia is better than FSU? Yes, but I make the rules for a reason. Georgia hasn't shown that on a field quite yet.
(3) Florida State (9-0) ⇓1
Last week: W 24-7 at Pittsburgh
An uninspired showing against 3-7 Pitt when Washington beats USC in L.A. will move you down the rankings.
(2) Washington (9-0) ⇑1
Last week: W 52-42 at (20) USC
I told anyone who would listen that Alex Grinch was a bad idea at USC, but what do I know? I just work here. An absolute monster of a game from Dillon Johnson takes the spotlight from Michael Penix, but that's the way USC forced the Huskies to win.
(1) Ohio State (9-0) ⇔
Last week: W 35-16 at Rutgers
I don't care that Rutgers was up 9-8 at the half in what looked like a game of pickup basketball from White Men Can't Jump. Ohio State still covered a three-score spread and wins over Notre Dame and Penn State keep them here...comfortably.
