No. 7 North Carolina at Syracuse, 86-79
The first significant upset from last week occurred on Tuesday when No. 7 ranked North Carolina lost on the road to unranked Syracuse, 86-79. Syracuse was led by guards J.J. Sterling and Judah Mintz, who combined to score 48 points against the Tar Heels. North Carolina didn't struggle as much as you would have expected, as the team did shoot a productive 47.5 percent from the field, but it happened to just be a near-automatic night for the Orange as they shot an impressive 62.5 percent. On the defensive side, it was all Syracuse as they totaled 10 steals and forced 11 turnovers from North Carolina during the loss. With the regular season coming to a close, this was a massive win for Syracuse to grab if they want any shot of being selected on Selection Sunday.
No. 6 Kansas at Texas Tech, 79-50
The second largest upset from last week also occurred on Tuesday night when the No. 6 ranked Kansas Jayhawks lost by 29 points in a contest that wasn't close. The Rebels managed to outscore the Jayhawks by 20 points in the second half, one of the worst losses coach Bill Self has ever had. Self was later ejected in the second half of the game for the first time in 20 years. Texas Tech was able to hold Kansas to just 32.7 percent from the field, and the Rebels shot lights out from deep as they were able to connect on 10 three-point shots. Kansas currently sits tied for 3rd in the Big 12 conference race.
No. 2 Purdue at Ohio State, 73-69
The most considerable upset from last week happened to the No. 2 team in the nation, Purdue, as they lost on the road to unranked Ohio State on Sunday, days after the Buckeyes fired former head coach Chris Holtmann. Both teams kept the game close all afternoon, but Ohio State could pull away as they were led by sophomore guard Bruce Thornton, who scored 22 points and connected on all five free-throw attempts.
The win is Ohio State's first against a top-five team since it beat No. 1 ranked Duke back in 2021. This marks Purdue's third loss to an unranked team this season, but they still stand comfortably on top of the Big 10 with a 12-3 record.
