NBA Waiver Wire: Centers (Week 6)

This week the waiver wire stars include suggested adds of a couple of younger guys getting a chance and a warning about David "I bet he wishes he was still on the Warriors bench" Lee. Consistent big men are hard to find, so being able to plug in guys who have been producing is a big key to winning over the long haul. Also, making sure you stay away from guys that offer no upside at all can be just as important. Below are a few players that should do everything you need from a big man for the next week or two, and potentially even longer.

Be sure to check out RotoBaller's other Week 6 NBA coverage, including our Week 6 Waiver Wire Guards and Week 6 Waiver Wire Forwards.

Position Eligibility & Ownership Rate Based on Yahoo! Fantasy Basketball Player List

NBA Week 6 Waiver Wire: Centers

Ed Davis (POR, PF/C) 49% Owned

Ed Davis has three double-doubles over a five game stretch. In the Trailblazers' last five games he's averaging 11 points and nine rebounds. Whenever Davis has gotten 23 or more minutes per game in his career he has put up close to a double-double with a block. This is Ed's fourth team in eight years but he is still only 26 years old. Every time he's gotten 30 or more minutes this season he's put up a double-double. The frontcourt for Portland is a jumbled mess right now as they pick up the pieces left behind by LaMarcus Aldridge. The Trailblazers are on a long term mission to find a front court that works with Damian Lillard and right now Davis is the next test subject on the chopping block. While the team experiments with Big Ed over the next few weeks, he will be worth the add.

David Lee (BOS, PF/C) 42% Owned

David Lee's fantasy career fell of a cliff after his 30th birthday. Steve Kerr came to the Warriors and promptly placed Lee on the bench in favor of younger players like Harrison Barnes and Draymond Green. The former All-Star went from averaging basically 18 points and 10 rebounds a season to eight and five. While this made basketball sense (because David Lee is slow and stops an offense in its tracks and plays no defense) it hurt fantasy owners far and wide. Lee's sneaky ability to score points is fooling people into again believing he might revive something from his all-star past. Do not be taken in by this wily old devil and his old man basketball tricks. He doesn't shoot threes, rebound, block shots, assist or do anything but somehow score double digit points every once in awhile. He has gotten less than 15 minutes a game more times than he's gotten 20 minutes a game this season. Stay away.

Bismack Biyombo (TOR, C) 17% Owned

Biyombo has been a rebounding freak over his last four games with an average of 12.5 per game. Its no coincidence that his large totals come with the 30 minutes per game he's gotten over that four game stretch(he was averaging around 17 before). The 23 year old big man from the Congo added two blocks per game while shooting 57% from the field and 42% from the free throw line. Biyombo's increase in minutes comes as a result of Jonas Valanciunas's broken finger. As long as Valanciunas is out Biyombo should be shuffled into any line up lacking in rebounds, blocks, and field goal percentage. The Raptors plan on seeing what they have in Biyombo so his value won't be this high the whole season but he shouldn't fully disappear when Valanciunas comes back.

Darrell Arthur (DEN, PF/C) 1% Owned

Arthur isn't that young but he is getting a chance. Arthur has already started more games this season than three of his first six years. The Nuggets front court has been hit with injuries meaning Arthur has had to play more minutes than usual over the last seven games. During that time he's averaging 10 points and 5 rebounds while shooting over 50%. If the Nuggets front court continues to have injury troubles throughout the season then Arthur will be someone to consider eventually picking up. In the meantime the whole situation should be monitored because someone besides Kenneth Faried will be producing for Denver up front.
