Obi Toppin, 16.5 Pts + Rebs + Asts (LOWER)
Indiana Pacers forward Obi Toppin was basically a non-factor on offense from a statistical standpoint. The former New York Knick averaged 7.4 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.0 assists in 15.7 minutes per game. On a new team, Toppin will likely see increased minutes and usage as the Pacers starting power forward, but he will have to compete with the rest of the starting lineup for stats. The Pacers starting five had four players average over 16.5 points last season. Toppin could struggle to collect counting stats.
Rudy Gobert, 13.5 Points (LOWER)
Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert regressed across several categories last season with his move to a new team. Gobert's points, rebounds, and blocks were all down from his time in Utah and that trend could continue this season. With Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards expected to take another step forward in his development, Gobert's contributions on the offensive side of the ball could be reduced even further.
Jonas Valanciunas, 12.5 Points (LOWER)
New Orleans Pelicans center Jonas Valanciunas has been one of the better scoring centers in the league for several seasons, but his residency in New Orleans could change that narrative. After sharing center duties with Larry Nance Jr. last season, Valanciunas is expected to be the starting center in a lineup full of scorers. Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram, and CJ McCollum are all capable of dropping 30 points on any given night. Valaciunas may be an afterthought in this offense.
Jaylen Brown, 21.5 Points (HIGHER)
Boston Celtics guard/forward Jaylen Brown had a dreadful time in the 2022 playoffs, but he did have an outstanding 2022 regular season. Brown is coming off a season where he averaged 26.6 points per game. The additions of Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday may have impacted his line for the season opener, but I fully expect Brown to still be the second option in a high-scoring Boston offense.
Paul George, 5.0 Rebounds (HIGHER)
Los Angeles Clippers forward Paul George faces the Portland Trailblazers on Wednesday. The Clippers star had 19 games where he grabbed eight or more rebounds last season, one of which came against the Trailblazers. George has averaged over five rebounds a game for eight straight seasons. I expect that trend to continue on Wednesday night.
Ben Simmons, 20.5 Pts + Rebs + Asts (HIGHER)
Brooklyn Nets guard/forward Ben Simmons faces the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday. After last season, the expectations could not be lower for Simmons, who is a former Rookie of the Year and All-NBA player. Simmons averaged 6.9 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 6.1 assists in 26.3 minutes per game in the 2023 season, which would equate to 19.3 total stats. With an expected increase in minutes and usage, Simmons should easily surpass this line since he is a strong contributor in each category.
