NBA Guards: Week 9 Waiver Wire Pickups & Sleepers

The first two guys are on the waiver wire list this week because you have to go get them now before it's too late. Both have shown in the past that they can produce and are starting to look like they will do it again. The other two guys are injured players looking to make a return sooner than later. They may have been forgotten about but should be worth a lot of consideration when they return.

Be sure to check out RotoBaller's other Week 9 NBA coverage, including our Week 9 Waiver Wire Centers and Week 9 Waiver Wire Forwards.

Position Eligibility & Ownership Rate Based on Yahoo! Fantasy Basketball Player List

NBA Guards: Week 9 Waiver Wire Pickups & Sleepers

Arron Afflalo (NYK, SG/SF) - 55% Owned

Afflalo is the second scoring option for New York right now. Kristaps Porzingis jokes aside, Afflalo is the most reliable person to get the Knicks a bucket not named Carmelo Anthony. In Orlando in 2013 Afflalo averaged just under 19 points a game. While he won't have the chance to do that, his current average of 14.2 points a game is Afflalo's basement, not ceiling. While he doesn't offer much in terms of rebounds and assists, his point totals and made three pointers make him worthy of a roster spot.

Jeremy Lin (CHA, PG/SG) - 40% Owned

Lin had a "Linsanity" flashback when he scored 35 points in overtime against the Raptors. This was because Nicolas Batum was out, so Lin had to start. He is having a great season coming off the bench for Charlotte though, and should be considered for all rosters. The potential sixth man of the year candidate is basically putting up the same stats he did last year. As the season goes on, I expect Lin to improve on his current 11 points and 4 assists a game. Lin has been a valuable piece for the Bobcats and should only get more playing time and opportunities as the season continues.

Brandon Jennings (DET, PG) - 34% Owned

Jennings played one game in the D-League and should be playing for the Pistons soon. He will be playing for a backup PG role behind Reggie Jackson. When Jennings was healthy, he averaged 18 points and 8 assists in his two years with the PIstons. With new head coach Stan Van Gundy and major competition from Steve Blake it just won't be possilbe for Jennings to repeay anything close to that. After such a long term injury the hope is just that Jennings will be healthy enough to give the Pistons any kind of consistent minutes. But if he shows that he's healthy and still has most of his old game, then Jennings will be a prime candidate for comeback player of the year.

Marcus Smart (BOS, PG) - 46% Owned

Boston Celtics head coach Brad Stevens will have to figure out how to slowly place Smart back into the lineup since the young poing guard has been injured since November. When Smart has played he has been a solid three and steal contributor. Because he will be sharing backcourt minutes with Isaiah Thomas and Avery Bradley, it will be hard to rely on Smart. While Thomas puts up great fantasy stats, his lack of defense and playmaking has hurt the Celtics a lot. There is a possibility Smart plays more than is expected because of that.
