Seven games Sunday with an early 3PM EST tip-off between the Pistons and Knicks. Without Jerami Grant or Julius Randle this game, Cade Cunningham and R.J. Barrett are going to do most of the ball-handling, with Immanuel Quickley and Marvin Bagley as secondary options off the bench. There hasn’t been much consistency from either of these teams, but the surges both squads have shown give plenty of upside when the matchups are favorable.
The Knicks defense starts with Mitchell Robinson, ending at Evan Fournier, and Detroit has no problem kicking the ball out to wing shooters like Saddiq Bey or Rodney McGruder to expose that weak point. On the other end, the Pistons size has been a problem against opposing bigs all season, but their physicality can limit them when the offense isn’t overwhelming. As long as the Knicks attack is funneled through Barrett and Robinson, the Pistons have another chance of stealing a win from another semi-fringe playoff team.

D'Angelo Russell OVER 5.5 Assists – Everyone knows that each time D’Angelo Russell steps on the court, stats are going to follow. Players have bad nights, but that really hasn’t been the case for why his game log looks so shaky from a betting perspective. Russell has been doing an outstanding job holding it down as a true point guard of this team through a majority of this season. He’s not forcing his own offense, unless he has to, and he’s focusing on letting his less-consistent teammates get their much-deserved usage. There’s no doubt about his ability, and with the Timberwolves safely in the playoff picture, Russell clearly understands the importance of making your teammates better players. While this has hurt his scoring output, his assists are at a career high and rising. Against a tougher defense, either he relies on his teammates and gets assists, or resorts to individual offense…and still gets assists.
James Harden OVER 8.0 Assists – Some sites have James Harden at 8.5 assists and before anything is said about Chris Paul or this defense, remember what the essence of NBA basketball is. Good defense. Better offense. The Suns are going to lock down most of the 76ers role players based on sheer defensive discipline and because their roster is full of young conditioned players. Still, it will ultimately have no impact on what Joel Embiid and Harden bring to the table. Team defense has never been able to limit either one of these players and the double-team that was effectively used stop Embiid’s dominant second-halves is almost non-existent. 14 assists over Harden’s las two games aren’t nearly as threating when you consider the context of each game. He can put the ball in the player’s hands, but he can’t hit the shot for them.
Jalen Brunson OVER 20.5 Pts+Rebs+Asts – As long as Luka Doncic is healthy and playing, Jalen Brunson willingly takes a backseat to focus on playing a more supportive role in both the offense and defense. Brunson went from a bench option to starter for more reasons than just his offense, and his defensive efforts have led to some underwhelming statistical nights. This is totally fine from this type of player because fewer stats doesn’t mean he isn’t thriving and the Mavericks aren’t playing well. Obviously, every point helps, but as long as Brunson doesn’t need to carry the offense, he’s going to continue to play this secondary role that has made him one of the most impactful players in the starting lineup. The biggest concern here is that any change in availability for Doncic and Brunson could easily replicate the role he played in last Wednesday’s game against the Rockets.
Other Recommendations – Karl-Anthony Towns UNDER 0.5 Double-Doubles, Marcus Smart UNDER 6.5 Assists, Jarred Vanderbilt OVER 7.0 Points, Jayson Tatum OVER 29.0 Points
