Top DFS Picks (Worth the Investment)
John Wall (WAS, PG) - $9,100
There will be a lot of people playing Russell Westbrook and Chris Paul, which is always hard to argue with, but tonight I like Wall. He can be had at a slightly cheaper price than the two players mentioned above, and has an excellent matchup against Orlando. The Magic cannot defend anybody, and Wall will be going up against rookie point guard Elfrid Payton.
Also working in Wall’s favor is the absence of Bradley Beal. Beal is expected to be sidelined for the first month of the season, so Wall will have to carry the mail offensively for the Wizards. All things considered, the reigning NBA assist leader is primed for a huge night against the Magic.
Kevin Love (CLE, PF) - $9,000
Many people are worried that Love will see a drop in production playing alongside Kyrie Irving and LeBron James, but that should not be the case. It could actually help Love to play with these guys, as he should get a ton of wide open looks.
Love draws a favorable opponent, the putrid Knicks' defense, on Thursday night. New York’s frontcourt was very weak last season, and this year they are without Tyson Chandler, who was traded back to Dallas in the offseason. The Knicks are also on the road, and in the second game of a back-to-back, so fire up Love without hesitation.
Nikola Vucevic (ORL, C) - $8,000
On a night with only five games on the schedule, the center position is pretty thin. Vucevic is coming off a monster performance against the Pelicans on Tuesday, posting 15 points, 23 rebounds, one assist, one steal and four blocks.
The Magic are currently missing Victor Oladipo, who is expected to be out of commission for about a month. Vucevic will be leaned on to shoulder the load until he returns, and should have no trouble putting up another double-double against the Wizards.
Best DFS Values (Sleepers)
Steven Adams (OKC, C) - 3,500
Adams has officially been named the starting center for the Thunder according to coach Scott Brooks. As a rookie last season, Adams averaged just 3.3 points and 4.1 rebounds coming off the bench for Oklahoma City. However, given starter’s minutes, he should make a huge leap in his second season.
The Thunder are opening the 2014-15 campaign lacking offensive firepower in the absence of Kevin Durant. Adams likely will not score a ton of points, but does offer a high field-goal percentage. His real value is on the defensive side of the ball. The 7-footer could easily grab double-digit rebounds with a couple blocks mixed in. At this bottom-barrel price, he should be a huge value.
Otto Porter Jr. (WAS, SG) - $3,000
Porter is also a second year player getting a big opportunity. He will likely be the biggest beneficiary of the injury to Bradley Beal. The Wizards are going with a committee approach at shooting guard, but the former lottery pick has the highest upside of the group.
As mentioned above with John Wall, Porter has a great matchup against the Magic. Coming off a solid preseason, Porter has built up momentum heading into the season and could be a sneaky play. His clearance rack price tag will allow you to afford a few studs in your lineup, which is critical when there are only a handful of games on the slate.
