ANALYSIS: Before this week, Nathan Eovaldi had been one of the most rock-solid consistent pitchers in the game, as he has posted an ERA between 3.39 and 4.43 every season since 2011. This year he has a 4.42 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, 3.86 FIP, 2.1 BB/9, and 8.3 K/9 (a career high for him). Those numbers were hurt by his recent struggles against the Angels and Orioles, but knowing his track record, Eovaldi should settle back down. His main drawback is that his home turf of Yankee stadium can be very HR-friendly which is why Eovaldi is allowing 1.3 HR/9, which is the highest mark of his career. Eovaldi now carries the added benefit of strikeout volume, as his strikeout percentage has jumped from 18% in 2015 to 22% this season, due to his swinging strike percentage going from 15.5% to 15.8%, which is another personal best. It isn't surprising that he gives up homers more frequently at home, but his splits are actually consistent as well as he sports a 4.58 ERA and 1.33 WHIP at home, and a 4.25 ERA and 1.22 WHIP on the road. Eovaldi is a starter you can still trust, and he has a higher ceiling now due to his swinging strikes created. He has had a rough past two outings, but one was in Yankee Stadium and the other was at Camden Yards against a powerful Orioles lineup. Bad outings do happen, but not often for Eovaldi.
