ANALYSIS: Nathan Eovaldi's time in the Big Apple has not been all sunshine and lollipops, but he has shown glimpses of what type of pitcher the Yankees were hoping for all along.
Eovaldi has never reached the 200 IP mark in any one season. However his K/9 has crept up every year and none of his other major categories have had serious regression throughout his injury-filled career. His 1.15 HR/9 is a bit higher than what he has been accustomed to, but pitching half of your games at Yankee Stadium lends itself to giving up more HR. His career FIP of 2.63 is lower than his career ERA of 4.09 and his K/BB has been anywhere from 2.3 to 4.5 throughout his career. Owners in 12+ team leagues cannot ignore his 5-2 start and his 4:1 K/BB ratio thus far.
The Yankees offense sways from red hot to ice cold, so run support has been all over the place and yet Eovaldi still keeps winning. He has pitched well in seven of his nine starts, and he has not walked more than three batters in any one game while posting 6+ K in five of his starts. Eovaldi is going to rack up K and QS this season. If he is available, he can help boost your rotation right away.
