The NASCAR Xfinity Series is in Portland this weekend for a standalone race at Portland International Raceway. That means no Cup Series or Truck Series drivers are in this field, so we've got a very interesting day of racing set to occur.
Last weekend, Cup Series driver Chase Elliott won the Xfinity Series race at Charlotte with Brandon Jones finishing second. It was a race dominated by Chevrolet, as the top six finishers all belonged to the manufacturer. Chandler Smith currently leads the Cup Series point standings by 17 points over Cole Custer.

A.J. Allmendinger - $10.7K
In 2022, A.J. Allmendinger became the inaugural Xfinity Series winner in Portland when he won the first Pacific Office Automation 147. Allmendinger led the final four laps to get the win.

Shane Van Gisbergen - $10.5K
The first time Shane Van Gisbergen ever sat in a NASCAR vehicle, he won the Cup Series Chicago street race. He followed that up with a top 10 at the Indianapolis road course.
SVG hasn’t had the same success in the Xfinity Series, due to a combination of his lack of oval experience and the fact that Kaulig is off-speed this year. Still, his previous Xfinity Series road course start was at COTA, where he qualified second and led 20 laps before finishing 27th.
Sheldon Creed - $10.0K
Sheldon Creed won the pole for this race last year and led 47 laps. He ultimately finished in seventh place. I really don’t think Creed gets enough credit for being a solid road course driver. He isn’t blowing anyone away, but he has seven top 10s at road courses, including three in a row to close last season.
Cole Custer - $9.7K
We can’t ignore the winner here last year. Cole Custer didn’t dominate that race, but he put himself in the right position and was in front for the final two laps of the race. He was fourth at COTA earlier this season.

Potential Mid-Tier Options
Josh Bilicki - $8.8K
I wish the price was a little lower here, but I think this is a great shot for Josh Bilicki. Usually, he’s running backmarker equipment, but he’s in a Joe Gibbs Racing car this weekend. This is a guy who got a top 10 last year at Road America in a Mario Gosselin car, so I’m excited to see what he can do in a JGR machine.
Chandler Smith - $8.2K
Chandler Smith has two wins, eight top 10s, and sits first in the Xfinity Series point standings, but he’s just $8.2K because he’s not known to be a good road course racer. But he was a solid eighth at COTA earlier this season and has four top 10s in nine road course races. Smith’s too good overall as a racer to be this cheap.
Sage Karam - $7.7K
Back at it again with @Team_SHR26 this time in Portland! Super excited to get back behind the wheel and have another shot at winning with great people! pic.twitter.com/ugkLMu5Bf1
— Sage Karam (@SageKaram) May 22, 2024
Sage Karam returns to Sam Hunt Racing this weekend to pilot the team’s No. 26 car. Last year, Karam finished fourth at Road America in a Sam Hunt car, and this season he was 17th at COTA in this car.
Potential Value Options
Preston Pardus - $6.8K
Preston Pardus is set to run his first race of the 2024 season this weekend after DNQing COTA in his family-owned car. This weekend, he’s piloting the No. 36 for Mario Gosselin. This was the team he raced with back in 2022, when he had top-15 finishes at COTA and Road America. In 2020 he had two top 10s for the team and he added another in 2021.
Ed Jones - $6.3K
It’s an all-IndyCar veteran lineup for Sam Hunt Racing this weekend, as the three-time podium finisher in IndyCar is set for his second career Xfinity start. The first, earlier this year at COTA, ended in a crash, but I have hope that he can figure things out this weekend. He has experience here, running this track three times in IndyCar and leading two laps in 2021.
Hailee Deegan - $5.5K
Hailee Deegan’s foray into Xfinity hasn’t gone particularly well, but I think this price is pretty low for her on a road course. In her first road course start in Xfinity, Deegan started 35th and finished 23rd at COTA. I trust her more at a track like this than I do at a speedway, though she obviously brings with her a lot of risk.
