Welcome back readers. We have a smaller slate for you today with nine games total, and the pitching is hard to find. Don't worry though, I found some winners for you to stream.
In this article, I’ll be providing you with the top starting pitcher streamers for daily fantasy baseball (DFS) and for seasonal leagues for 6/9/16. These streamers will range from high-priced / high-ownership options to low-priced / low-ownership options, and will be sleepers and value picks for your cash games and GPPs on DraftKings and FanDuel, and also for seasonal leagues with daily lineups.
There'll be three main sections of this article: our Pitcher Matchups Tool’s top plays, my value plays, and pitchers to fade. I highly recommend you check out the Daily Pitcher Matchups Ratings tool - it's an extremely useful tool for daily fantasy or seasonal streaming for finding the diamonds in the rough. Anyways, let's get rowdy.
Daily Pitcher Matchup Ratings Tool Top Plays
Ervin Santana (SP, MIN) vs Marlins
Risky Stream
Another spin of the Twins wheel for the Matchup Tool, and once again I am cautious about proceeding. Santana has a 5.46 ERA at home and was lit up for three home runs in his last outing versus Tampa Bay. Santana's main crutch is the long ball, and if there's a promising sign it's the fact the Marlins 37 home runs versus RHP is 26th in baseball. I'm still not using Santana unless my ERA/WHIP is shot for the week.
Brandon Finnegan (SP, CIN) vs Cardinals
Risky Stream
Finnegan has been inconsistent this season but is coming off one of his better starts in which he held the Nationals to one run in 6.1 innings. The Cardinals .400 slugging versus LHP is 19th in baseball, and if Finnegan can contain Matt Carpenter (.472, 2 HR), he should pitch well enough for the quality start. I still prefer stream pitchers in pitcher-friendly parks, but if your options are dire he's a better play than Santana.
Max’s Value Plays of the Day
Jimmy Nelson (SP, MIL) vs Mets
Must Sream
Chances are Nelson is owned in your league (65% Yahoo! ownership) but owners may have jumped off after his last outing (4 IP, 6 ER). Keep in mind he had allowed just four runs in his previous 28.2 innings. The Mets are an average offense versus righties, but Nelson should be owned regardless.
Tom Koehler (SP, MIA) at Twins
Solid Stream
Ever since getting blown up versus Milwaukee on May 1st, Koehler has produced a 2.87 ERA in 37.2 innings. The 3.87 FIP indicates regression is due, but I don't think it happens today. The Twins .707 OPS versus RHP is 22nd in baseball.
Starting Pitchers to Fade in Daily Fantasy Baseball
Marcus Stroman (SP, TOR) vs Orioles
Stroman seems to handle the easy lineups and struggle versus the top offenses. This is a case of the latter, as the Orioles have a .811 OPS versus RHP (3rd) along with 71 home runs, best in baseball.
Adam Wainwright (SP, STL) at Reds
Waino looked strong versus San Francisco last week, but I'm not convinced he's back for good. He has a 4.50 ERA lifetime versus Cincinnati while the Reds have 56 HR versus RHP, 8th best in baseball.
