Cubs @ Reds
More or Less Contest
Vladimir Gutierrez more than 4.5 strikeouts and Kyle Hendricks less than 4.5 strikeouts
Gutierrez gets one of the best matchups he has had all season in terms of strikeout potential. He will be facing the Cubs who are posting a ridiculous 35.2% K rate over the previous 10 days, which is far and away ranked the worst in baseball over that span. They are also posting just a 60 wRC+ over that same span, which is ranked third-worst in the league. Gutierrez has also gone over this total in three of his previous four starts.
Kyle Hendricks has failed to go over this total in six of his previous seven starts and will likely struggle to get over this total tonight. The Reds are posting a K rate of 23.9% over the previous 10 days, which is ranked smack in the middle of the league at 15th overall. They are also posting a wRC+ mark of 143 over the previous 10 days, which is ranked third-best in the league. This should mean trouble for Hendricks tonight. In two starts against the Reds, he has allowed six earned runs in 10 1/3 innings pitched and has gone over the total once and failed to reach it once. Given how hot this Reds team has been, it seems more likely he will stay under the total tonight.

Pirates @ Dodgers
More or Less Contest
David Price less than 4.5 strikeouts and Wil Crowe more than 3.5 strikeouts
David Price gets a matchup vs. the Pittsburgh Pirates tonight. On the season, the Pirates have the 12th-best k rate against left-handed pitching with a rate of just 22.4%. This is a number that Price has also failed to reach in every single start and appearance this season, including a four-strikeout performance across 5 1/3 innings pitched against the Angels on August 6th.
Wil Crowe has gone over his total of 3.5 in four consecutive starts and six of his previous seven starts, so the track record is there. He will be facing a tough Dodgers squad, but they are striking out at a rate of 25.2% vs. right-handers over the previous 10 days, which is ranked 11th-worst in the league over that span. The fact that this number is set at 3.5 is what makes it so enticing, so if it were to climb later in the day, it would likely be a fade.
