We begin July with one of the smaller MLB slates of the season. There are only three games over the entire day on Monday, and we get started with a matinee. Those lineups need to be in earlier than usual today. That's a touch inconvenient, but this is a decent slate for as small as it is.
This article will provide my daily fantasy baseball lineup picks for DraftKings and FanDuel on Monday, July 1, 2024, with the slate starting at 3:07 p.m. EDT. The lineup picks will range from some elite players to mid-priced options and value plays.

DraftKings, FanDuel Pitchers - MLB DFS Lineup Picks
Hunter Brown at TOR ($8.5K DraftKings; $9.3K FanDuel)
This is going to be a tougher day, especially on DraftKings where we have to wade through the muck and find two pitchers that we are okay with gambling on. There's no way I'm touching MacKenzie Gore against a Mets team that blistered him in June. That leaves Brown as the next man up. This isn't a great matchup for Brown since the Blue Jays' offense is beginning to hit like we all thought they could.
Hunter Brown past 6 starts:
37 IP
45 Ks
8 BB
1.22 ERA
0.89 WHIP6.08 ERA in his previous 36 appearances.

This tells me that Brown has finally figured something out. It is worth noting that only the Twins were a team with an offensive pulse during this hot streak. Brown faced Colorado (at sea level), Detroit, Seattle, and the Angels twice, aside from Minnesota. I will ride the hot hand on a short slate, especially since Brown has been missing a lot of bats lately.
David Peterson at WAS ($7.3K DraftKings; $8.6K FanDuel)
Instead of playing Russian Roulette with Gore, I'm siding with the Mets in this matchup on offense and defense. Peterson only allowed one run against the Yankees in his last start...even though he needed 103 pitches to record 13 outs. Still, it says something that Peterson issued a staggering five walks and only allowed one run.
The good news is that the strikeouts are also up. Peterson has 14 strikeouts over 10 1/3 innings in his last two starts after only notching six over 16 2/3 innings in his first three starts of 2024. The Nats are only striking out 20.4% of the time against lefties over the last month, but the paltry 77 wRC+ suggests that they aren't getting quality contact. Peterson might be the best per-dollar play on the slate.

DraftKings, FanDuel Infielders - MLB DFS Lineup Picks
Jose Altuve – 2B, HOU vs. Yariel Rodriguez ($5.3K DK; $3.8K FD)
Altuve has five multi-hit games over his last six contests and Y-Rod has allowed 11 runs (10 earned) over nine innings in his past three major league starts. Those three games were against Cleveland and Kansas City twice. The Astros are better than both of those offenses. I want the leadoff man that opposing teams can't keep off base.
Michael Toglia – 1B, COL vs. Bryse Wilson ($4.3K DK; $3.3K FD)
While I don't usually trust anyone who goes by Michael, I might make an exception today. Toglia has three homers in the last six games. Two of those were away from Coors Field. The Rockies are back at home against Wilson and the Brewers tonight. Toglia is having the most success this year against cutters, which is what Wilson throws most (33.1%).

Mark Vientos – 3B, NYM vs. MacKenzie Gore ($3.5K DK; $3.1K FD)
Vientos took Gore deep in that June game in which Gore allowed six runs to the Mets in 4 1/3 innings. The reason why Gore has hit a rough patch of late is that he throws a four-seamer 54.5% of the time. Most major leaguers can hit fastballs, even good ones like Gore's. Vientos has pounded fastballs and sliders so far this year, pitches that Gore offers up 69% of the time. I like the chances for Vientos to get ahold of another here today. He has five homers in the last 10 games.
Also consider: Pete Alonso, Brice Turang, Alex Bregman
DraftKings, FanDuel Outfielders - MLB DFS Lineup Picks
Yordan Alvarez – OF, HOU vs. Yariel Rodriguez ($5.7K DK; $4.1K FD)
I understand that Christian Yelich is a talented fellow in the most hitter-friendly park, but the matchup for Alvarez is much better, and the $800 savings on DraftKings go a long way toward not having to scrape the bottom of the barrel for your second starting pitcher. Alvarez is hitting a blistering .342 with two homers, five RBI, eight runs scored, and a steal in the last 10 games. Those numbers are a touch above Yelich (.308, eight runs, four RBI, a homer, and three steals). Pocket the savings here for a much better matchup.
George Springer – OF, TOR vs. Hunter Brown ($3.8K DK; $2.9K FD)
I know that Brown is my top pitcher on the slate, but using a hitter against your pitcher is a great way to gain some leverage in a GPP tournament. There isn't a lot of parity on a three-game slate. Running a hot hitter like Springer (.333, three homers, four runs scored, 10 RBI, and a steal in the last 10 games) against your pitcher won't cost you many points and offers a chance to get a lot of points for you, especially against the depleted Houston bullpen.
Jackson Chourio – OF, MIL vs. Austin Gomber ($3.5K DK; $3.4K FD)
Gomber defies logic by having a much better home ERA (3.57 in six starts) than his road ERA (5.44 in nine starts). Milwaukee has struggled against lefties for much of this year, but they have improved lately, partially because of Chourio. The rookie is riding a seven-game hitting streak during which he is hitting .435 with two homers, six RBI, and seven runs scored. I'll trust a guy on a hot streak in Coors Field any day!
