Happy Monday! Tonight’s slate is a tidy six-gamer that looks to be a lot of fun. The most high-profile game on the slate will be Carlos Rodon and the Yankees heading to Kansas City to take on the surprisingly good Seth Lugo and the Royals. Despite both teams' quality, neither side profiles as a top stacking option. Instead, we can look to the other five games to find our big bats for the evening.
The Houston Astros look to have the best matchup against lefty Kyle Harrison. Houston hasn’t been as good against southpaw pitchers as you’d think this year, but that could turn around tonight with this strong matchup. The Brewers and Blue Jays look to be the best game-stacking option, with both Jose Berrios and Colin Rea having glaring weaknesses. Also, don’t count sleep on the Padres, as they have a great home matchup against Joey Estes and the Oakland Athletics.

DraftKings, FanDuel Pitchers - MLB DFS Lineup Picks
Dylan Cease (SD/RHP) vs. Oakland Athletics ($10.3K DK, $10.2K FD)
Dylan Cease is the clear chalk on this slate, making him an easy choice as one of your two cash-game pitchers on DraftKings. Even with his expected high ownership, it could be hard to fade Cease in tournaments as well given how well he profiles on the pitching model. Cease missed a perfect score by one metric (home runs per nine innings), and even there he was just shy of an elite rating. Otherwise, he’s been outstanding with a 30% strikeout rate, a strikeout-to-walk rate over four, and an average of just about six innings per start.
Oakland’s expected lineup has a 27% strikeout rate and a sub-.160 ISO against right-handed pitching. An offense that lacks power and has a propensity for striking out is exactly what we look for when choosing our cash-game pitchers. Cease has had a recent dip in production (five straight games of three or more earned runs), but he’s still powered through for three games of more than 16 DraftKings points in those games. Maybe he’s not such an intriguing play against most other teams, but the A’s are so bad against right-handed pitching that he should be able to hit a nice floor.
Erick Fedde (CWS/RHP) at Seattle Mariners ($7.8K DK, $8.6K FD)
Only Dylan Cease and Logan Gilbert rank above Erick Fedde on the pitching model, but it could be Fedde who ends up as the best points-per-dollar play on the slate with his value price point of just $7,800 on DraftKings. He averages 17 DraftKings points per game, which is a greater than two times return on his price; the number we look for when choosing a cash-game pitcher on DraftKings. Fedde has scored 15 or more DraftKings points in seven of his last 10 games; an outstanding floor for a sub-$8,000 pitcher.
He has a 23% strikeout rate on the season, which is just on the cusp of being elite, but that was hurt by a handful of poor performances where he had less than four strikeouts. He seems to have fixed that problem with six or more strikeouts in four of his last five starts. The Mariners are a strikeout-heavy team with a 26.6% strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this year. Fedde has been far better at home than on the road this year, but that strikeout rate for Seattle puts Fedde on the radar despite this being a road game.

DraftKings, FanDuel Infielders - MLB DFS Lineup Picks
Salvador Perez - C/1B, KC vs. Carlos Rodon ($5.4K DK, $3.2K FD)
Salvador Perez hasn’t scored double-digit DraftKings points in nearly two weeks, but he still has the second-highest average fantasy points per game of any catcher on tonight’s slate. That speaks to Perez’s consistency, if not his upside. The reason Perez gets a look tonight is because he has a strong history against Carlos Rodon and lefties in general. For the season, he has a .308 batting average and a .481 slugging percentage against left-handed pitching in limited at-bats (59 at-bats for two home runs and eight runs batted in).
Against Rodon, Perez has a .450 batting average with two home runs and a .800 slugging percentage in 20 at-bats. That’s a significant enough sample size, combined with his history against lefties, to give Perez a shot as a one-off in a tournament lineup or as a part of a Royals mini-stack (with Bobby Witt Jr., Maikel Garcia, and/or Dairon Blanco) to try to attack an expensive and popular Rodon.
Ezequiel Tovar - SS, COL at Chris Paddack ($4.6K DK, $3.2K FD)
Believe it or not, Ezequiel Tovar is the best hitter on the Rockies. He has four games of double-digit DraftKings points over his last 10 games, a stretch that has seen him post a .333 batting average with seven extra-base hits. Shockingly, Tovar has been more productive away from Coors than at home, with eight of his 10 home runs coming on the road this year.
He’s also been great against right-handed pitching, with a .307 batting average, a .510 slugging percentage, and a .203 ISO. Tovar gets a bump tonight as Chris Paddack is a reverse splits pitcher, allowing a .489 slugging percentage to right-handed bats this year. Tovar is a little pricey given how rough the rest of the Rockies lineup is, but he’s an option in all lineup formats as a one-off play.
Ezequiel Tovar is now hitting .292 BA with 9 HR.
He leads all MLB shortstops with 7 DRS and .993 fielding percentage. He also owns a 1.1 dWAR (5th among all positions).

Jake Cronenworth - 2B, SD vs. Joey Estes ($4.3K DK, $3.2K FD)
The Padres make for a very appealing stack tonight against Joey Estes and the Oakland Athletics. Estes isn’t the worst pitcher on the slate, but he’s allowed five or more earned runs in two of his five starts this year and is particularly poor against left-handed bats. He’s allowed a .447 slugging percentage to lefties this year, which is the third-highest number on the slate.
Jake Cronenworth is the best Padres lefty against right-handed pitching this year with a .224 ISO and a .500 slugging percentage. He’s scored double-digit fantasy points in two of his last four games, and he went into Sunday afternoon’s game with multiple hits in back-to-back games. The Padres should get on base frequently in this game, opening up plenty of opportunities for Cronenworth to knock them in.
DraftKings, FanDuel Outfielders - MLB DFS Lineup Picks
Daulton Varsho, OF - TOR at Colin Rea ($4.4K DK, $3K FD)
Colin Rea has allowed a .489 slugging percentage to left-handed bats this season. That is the worst number on the slate and one that puts a target right on Daulton Varsho. The Blue Jays lack power lefty bats outside of Varsho, meaning he’s in the best spot of any Toronto bat tonight. It wouldn’t be a shock if he was hitting right in the middle of the order given his team-leading .268 ISO against right-handed pitching. Varsho has scored double-digit DraftKings points in half of his last eight games. Tonight, he’ll be in line to make that five out of nine games with the Blue Jays profiling so well against righties.
Jake Meyers, OF - HOU at Kyle Harrison ($3.3K DK, $2.7K FD)
There are nine batters in an MLB lineup. I could give you nine guesses and you still wouldn’t have guessed who leads the Astros in ISO against left-handed pitching. Clearly, it’s Jake Meyers with a .209 ISO, a .419 slugging percentage, and only an 11% strikeout rate in 59 plate appearances. With so many expensive bats that are appealing on the slate, you’re going to need to find some value, and Meyers could be that guy. He’s not a cash-game option at all given his inconsistent play, but his power numbers make him a perfect cheap addition to an Astros stack or as a one-off in a tournament lineup.
Trevor Larnach, OF - MIN vs. Dakota Hudson ($4K DK, $2.9K FD)
We’ve talked about two of the three most generous pitchers to left-handed bats, so we might as well go for the trifecta and pick on Dakota Hudson. He’s allowed a .455 slugging percentage to lefties this year, and the Twins have a roster full of left-handed bats who should be able to take advantage.
The top name on that list should be Trevor Larnach. He has a .194 ISO and a .454 slugging percentage. He’s also been the best left-handed bat on the Twins with three home runs and four games of double-digit fantasy points over his last 10 games. His $4,000 price point isn’t too prohibitive, so he should be a primary option for any Twins stack or as part of a mini-stack in tournaments. He’s not a great cash option, but he could be used if he’s batting anywhere in the top four for the Twins.
