Welcome to week six of the baseball year. Not a full-slate with thirteen games on the slate and there are no early games to worry about. That makes it nice for FanDuel purposes, but I sure do love baseball all day. The pickings aren't great today, but I'll help you find the winners.
In this article, I’ll be providing you with the top starting pitcher streamers for daily fantasy baseball (DFS) and for seasonal leagues for 5/9/16. These streamers will range from high-priced / high-ownership options to low-priced / low-ownership options, and will be sleepers and value picks for your cash games and GPPs on DraftKings and FanDuel, and also for seasonal leagues with daily lineups.
There'll be three main sections of this article: our Pitcher Matchups Tool’s top plays, my value plays, and pitchers to fade. I highly recommend you check out the Daily Pitcher Matchups Ratings tool - it's an extremely useful tool for daily fantasy or seasonal streaming for finding the diamonds in the rough. Anyways, let's get cracking!
Daily Pitcher Matchup Ratings Tool Top Plays
Jose Fernandez (SP, MIA) vs Brewers
FanDuel - $10,800 / DraftKings - $11,300
JoFer has 47 strikeouts through 33 innings and has one career loss at home. The Marlins are a heavy favorite in Vegas (-240) and I look forward to Fernandez to pick up the W tonight.
Felix Hernandez (SP, SEA) vs Rays
FanDuel - $10,700 / DraftKings - $11,000
I have to admit; I'm frightened to use King Felix. His fastball has disappeared and he's had some unimpressive performances. But he's also had two 47+ FanDuel outings and owns a 1.92 ERA versus the Rays in his career. To top it off, he hasn't allowed a run at home this year. People will be scared off, lowering the ownership in the process. It's a nice tourney play.
Max’s Value Plays of the Day
Jon Lester (SP, CHC) vs Padres
FanDuel - $11,000 / DraftKings - $11,800
The ultimate cash play. Lester has had four straight outings with 40+ FanDuel points and gets a tasty home game versus Cesar Vargas.
Colby Lewis (SP, TEX) vs White Sox
FanDuel - $7,600 / DraftKings - $6,500
Lewis has a 2.70 ERA in his last three starts including seven strikeouts last time out versus the formidable Blue Jays. The White Sox have a .677 OPS versus righties, fifth worst in baseball.
Starting Pitchers to Fade in Daily Fantasy Baseball
Sonny Gray (SP, OAK) at Red Sox
FanDuel - $9,600 / DraftKings - $6,800
DISCLAIMER: This is only for FanDuel. That pricing on DraftKings is bonkers. Gray has been awful to start 2016, but he owns a 2.08 ERA and 12/2 K/BB ratio versus the Red Sox in his career. I can't justify the price on FanDuel though; too many better plays.
Anibal Sanchez (SP, DET) at Nationals
FanDuel - $7,200 / DraftKings - $7,500
Sanchez allowed over two home runs a game on the road last year and has a 5.29 ERA on the road this year. Factor in facing Stephen Strasburg and this is an easy fade.
