Happy Hump Day Gang! John, aka 'LucidMedia," back with your MLB betting picks for this Wednesday, June 9th. I hope the week has treated you well thus far, and the weekend is almost here! We had a rough one on Monday, as Adbert Alzolay didn't bring his best stuff, and eventually left due to injury. We can only hope he's okay, and we'll bounce back on the books here today.
I will be doing these picks for you every Monday and Wednesday going forward this baseball season. Just to let you know, I mainly bet on FanDuel Sportsbook, and that's where the odds below will be coming from. I know not everyone is able to bet on Fanduel, so if you are betting elsewhere just make sure to shop around and find the best odds.
We have been really increasing our sports betting content at RotoBaller, and this year will be no different. Tommy Bell (@BellRoto) will be handling things over in our premium offering. Steve Janik (@stevejanik6) will be carrying the free picks on during the week throughout the season with some help from yours truly. Los Angeles Dodgers @ Pittsburgh Pirates
O/U: 9 | Moneyline: PIT +150
LAD: Tony Gonsolin | PIT: Tyler Anderson
The Dodgers have to eventually get the ball rolling on this season. Yes, I know they're ten games over .500, but it seems with how good we expect them to be they feel more like a .500 team. What's a good remedy for that? Well, facing the Pirates is certainly helps. The Dodgers will run Tony Gonsolin out for his first start of the 2021 campaign. He was great last season, starting eight games and rocking a 2.31 ERA. The reason he was great at limiting hard contact and getting up in the count early. This plays well against the Pirates, who don't strike out a ton but don't create much hard contact.
The Dodgers are finally getting healthy again, with Cody Bellinger and AJ Pollock back in the lineup. Pollock will be huge for LA in this matchup, as Tyler Anderson takes the mound for Pittsburgh. I expect the Dodgers to turn the offense up to 12 today and get the job done against the Buccos. Sorry, Tommy B and Thunder Dan!
There's just too much value here to pass up with a 35-25 team matched up against a 23-36 team. Take the Dodgers ML.
Pick: Dodgers Moneyline (-160), FanDuel Sportsbook
New York Yankees @ Minnesota Twins
O/U: 8.5 | Moneyline: MIN +162
NYY: Gerrit Cole | MIN: Randy Dobnak
This is the one matchup of the three I'm really looking forward to. This is a huge bounce-back opportunity for Cole, after getting hit around pretty good by Tampa Bay last time out. The good news is, the Twins aren't quite as good at hitting as Tampa. It's an interesting start for Cole, as it's been massively speculated that he was one of the (many) pitchers using foreign substances to improve the spin rates on his pitches. I personally think Cole is a gamer and is going to go out there and show how great he is and that he doesn't need anything to make him great.
On the other hand, we'll see one of the best stories in baseball in recent memory as Randy Dobnak takes the hill for Minny. The former Uber driver has done well to keep the ball on the ground this season but has been getting touched up as of late. This doesn't bode well for him against a team that has the offensive potential that the Bombers do. The Yankees have been frustrating this year, but I expect them to hit around an average-at-best pitcher here.
Another situation of good value on the money line. Grab the Yanks.
Pick: Yankees Moneyline (-177), FanDuel Sportsbook
New York Mets @ Baltimore Orioles
O/U: 9 | Moneyline: BAL +130
NYM: Taijuan Walker | BAL: Matt Harvey
Holy value, Batman! The Mets got smoked last night, as David Peterson and Robert Gsellman surrendered 4 earned runs each in just the first five innings. They look to bounce back this evening with Taijuan Walker on the bump. Walker has pitched well in New York this year, posting a 4-2 record with a 2.17 ERA.
Matt Harvey will take the mound for Baltimore. Harvey, a once-promising starter, has been brutal this season. He's carrying a 3-6 record with a 6.62 ERA into tonight's matchup. Baltimore has seemed to pump the breaks on Harvey, though, as they won't be stretching him further than 2-3 innings. They usually run out Tyler Wells after Harvey, but Wells threw two innings last night. I expect either Zac Lowther or Keegan Akin to follow "The Dark Knight". I don't think that the Mets will have trouble with Harvey unless there's some sort of "revenge narrative" there. Look for them to get the job done.
Just like the other two games, there's just too much value in this matchup with a first-place team with a good pitcher on the mound against a last-place team with a bad pitcher on the mound. Take the value in the Mets.
Pick: Mets Moneyline (-140), FanDuel Sportsbook
