BALLER MOVE: Target ~320
CURRENT ADP: 362
ANALYSIS: After the top few tiers of first basemen begin to vanish from the board, a trend emerges in the remaining guys outside of the top-15. High-power, low-average guys have become a commonplace fixture at the position, with a plethora of cookie-cutter hitters to choose from in the later rounds of the draft.
We're talking about the Justin Bours of the world, the Mark Trumbos, God forbid the Chris Carters. Hidden among these ranks is Mitch Moreland, who enjoyed a career season in 2015 with a .278/.330/.482 line to go with 23 HR and 85 RBI. Many of the aforementioned 1B options can be tantalizing power threats late in the draft, but the low average is too much of a hit.
Adam Lind, for example, enjoyed the best numbers of his career in Milwaukee last year (20 HR, 87 RBI, .277 AVG). Even though these numbers were a shade below Moreland's and he has moved to the pitcher-friendly environment of Seattle in 2016, he is inexplicably being drafted in the same rounds as Moreland. Of all of the 20+ HR guys in this patch of the draft, Moreland is going to be the most reliable and the least harmful to your team's average. Plus, it doesn't hurt the counting stats to be included on a playoff team with a great roster of bats.
