BALLER MOVE: Draft Target Late Rounds in All Leagues
ANALYSIS: Are you overpaying for Buster Posey just to get 20 bombs out of the catcher slot? Maybe it's the consistent playing time? Well too bad you'll have to spend your 3rd or 4th round draft pick!
Enter Mike Zunino stage left; our favorite power hitting stud catcher who had a very nice 2014 campaign in the power department posting a delicious 22 bombs and driving in 60 base runners. Yes, we all know it came despite a .199 batting average but when you look at his tools and pedigree, the fact that he also posted a super solid .205 ISO does not surprise.
We do expect a further continuation of his major league development in 2015 as he wraps up spring training batting well above .300 and hitting 6 homeruns while driving in 10 RBI. His strikeout rate is still hovering around 20%, but you will be hard pressed to find more upside at the catcher position, late in drafts, than you will discover in the 3rd overall pick in 2012.
Make sure you are targeting Mike Zunino in deeper mixed leagues and certainly in AL Only and 2 catcher formats.
