ANALYSIS: Mike Williams' profile as a receiver is that of a boom/bust asset. He's a deep threat and a walking big-play waiting to happen. That cuts his upside on a play-to-play basis, and will always lead to horrific games when things don't go his way. On the other hand, what he did on Monday is also in his range of outcomes.
With Keenan Allen out almost from the game's start, rookie QB Justin Herbert had to look after the rest of WRs against New Orleans. Williams logged his second-highest targets of the season (8) and caught 5 passes for 109 yards... and two scores! In the other game Williams was targeted more than 4 times (W1, 9 targets) he also finished with good numbers at 4 catches and 69 yards, only lacking the touchdown.
After three stars scoring below 11 fantasy points, Williams finished W5 as the WR4 and seventh-best player overall with 27.9 PPR points. He was only bested by Adam Thielen, Travis Fulgham, and Chase Claypool.
Even if Keenan Allen returns to the lineup in Week 7 (LAC is on a bye this next weekend) Williams will still retain his WR2 role and he's shown more than enough to play him at your FLEX spot in deep leagues, with upside to finish as a WR2/WR3 if Herbert connects with him for long passes and touchdowns.
Risky play in shallow formats, but clear boom/bust flier to get and play in any type of deeper league.
