BALLER MOVE: Draft in Late Rounds as 3B/CI/UTIL
ANALYSIS: Mike Moustakas was at one time rated as the best pure hitter in the entire Royals system. That was way back in 2008. Moustakas has taken a mighty tumble since that time bottoming out last season hitting .212. But the night is always darkest before the dawn, right?
The fact the Moustakas only struck out 74 times in 457 plate appearances last year should bring some hope to this situation. But 19 errors last season makes me think that Alex Gordon should have stayed at 3B and Moustakas move to the OF. Perhaps he would be more focused on creating solid contact. I see this being a make or break year for Moustakas, as patience is running out on him. Sometimes the best way to be motivated is by applying some internal pressure on oneself. The Royals farm system is packed with guys that are hungry for playing at Kauffman Stadium, and they are fresh off a World Series appearance in 2014. Expectations could not be higher for the Royals to perform.
Moustakas can garner 500 at-bats and create solid contact to the tune of 15-20 HR and 75 RBI. You might be asking yourself what excitement can be taken from those numbers? Acquiring those stats in the later rounds still presents an invaluable piece to add in any fantasy team. Buy low and reap the benefits, especially with a player that has a great pedigree and upside to breakout.
