On Saturday afternoon, the NASCAR Cup Series tried to hold the qualifying session for this weekend's FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway, but Mother Nature had other plans. During practice, which was scheduled before qualifying, it started raining, and the precipitation picked up so much that NASCAR decided to cancel qualifying all together.
Because of qualifying getting canceled, the starting lineup for Sunday's FireKeepers Casino 400 was set by the NASCAR Performance Metric Formula.
Performance Metrics is a total number based largely on the previous race. It is calculated using 15% of a fastest lap time position, 25% of the driver’s final race finish position, 25% of the owner’s final race finish position and 35% of the current Owner Points position.
