ANALYSIS: Maxx Williams is the talented rookie tight end who many believed was drafted by the Ravens for offensive depth. However, with Crockett Gilmore ruled out for Thursday Night Football against the Steelers, Maxx Williams will be provided with the opportunity to make an immediate impact.
In Weeks 1 and 2, Crockett Gilmore saw most of the offensive snaps at tight end, resulting in Williams' receiving only a reception per game for 15 and eight yards, respectively. However, in Week 3 against the Bengals, Crockett Gilmore had to exit in the second half due to injury. This opened the door immediately for Williams to step up, and he quickly caught three passes for 44 yards.
Williams is getting the start this week against a Steeler defense that is prone to allowing tight end production. If you watched Williams play at the University of Minnesota, you know he is destined to be a starting tight end in the NFL. Thursday is his chance to prove that, and fantasy football managers should look for Williams to receive plenty of targets and build off of his already solid yard-per-catch figures. Add Williams for Week 4, and you may not need another tight end all season.
