Fantasy Baseball Impact Of The Miami Marlins Reportedly Claiming Relief Pitcher Matt Moore Off Waivers
The Miami Marlins have reportedly claimed relief pitcher Matt Moore off waivers from the Cleveland Guardians, according to a tweet from ESPN’s Jeff Passan on Tuesday.
Passan tweeted the following:
Moore has appeared in 46 games so far this season, which he's split between the Los Angeles Angels and the Guardians, pitching to a 2.77 ERA and a 3.77 FIP in 48.2 innings of work. He’s also added four pitcher wins in the process to go along with a career-best 21 holds while working as a late-inning reliever in his time with both American League organizations.
The veteran has yet to log a save this season, and he’s unlikely to see many (if any) save chances for Miami down the stretch with Tanner Scott serving as the Marlins' closer and a number of other late-inning options on hand. Most notably Andrew Nardi, AJ Puk, David Robertson, and Steven Okert. There should still be opportunities for Moore to log some holds in the season’s final weeks. The Marlins entered play on Tuesday in the thick of the National League Wild Card race, sitting just a half-game behind the Chicago Cubs.
Given his effectiveness so far this year, the former Detroit Tigers hurler could be worth a look down the stretch for fantasy managers in deeper leagues where holds are part of the scoring format.
