BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 7% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: Matt Manning became the casualty of a numbers game in the Tigers rotation out of spring training as the club added veterans Kenta Maeda and Jack Flaherty as rotation locks in the offseason alongside incumbents Tarik Skubal and Casey Mize. The final spot came down to Manning and right-hander Reese Olson with Olson claiming the spot and subsequently hurling a 2.09 ERA through eight starts.
As for Manning, he has managed to make four starts with the big club due to doubleheaders and, most recently, filling the vacated spot left by Maeda, who has hit the 15-day injured list due to an illness.
Manning has been decent in the big leagues this season, tossing a 4.37 ERA and 4.24 SIERA across 22 2/3 innings of work. The good news is he has at least seen an increase in strikeout rate to a 22.7% clip, far better than his 16.7% career mark. He punched out Triple-A opponents at a massive 31.6% mark this season as prospective fantasy managers continue to wait for those big minor league strikeout numbers to translate to the big leagues.

With Maeda sporting a 6.75 ERA on the season, there is no guarantee his rotation spot is still there when he is eligible to come off the IL, especially if Manning pitches well in his stead. The 26-year-old has deep-league appeal for the short-term and still sports a nice ceiling if he can find his strikeout stuff at the big league level.
