BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
OWNED IN: 17% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: Seattle Mariners pitcher Matt Magill has taken over the closing role for the team the past two weeks. He's converted three of his four save opportunities, striking out five batters in three innings over that stretch. His one blown save was a disaster as he allowed three hits, a walk and two earned runs without recording an out, but his other three outings have been smooth.
The Mariners have been floundering since their hot start to the season, but they find themselves in a good amount of close contests, allowing their closers to receive more save opportunities than some of the other bottom feeders out there like the Tigers and Orioles.
Magill was acquired in a trade with the Twins in mid-July and had been having a pretty awful year at that point with a 4.45 ERA and 1.59 WHIP. He's been better with the Mariners, but has still had a few shaky outings here and there. He doesn't have the pitching profile of a high upside closer, but saves on the waiver wire are hard to come by, especially at this point in the season, making him worthy of an add in 12+ team leagues and AL-only leagues where saves are highly-coveted.
