Analysis: The biggest problem with Matt Adams in 2016 will be his ability to remain healthy, let’s just get that out of the way now. If you have faith that he can overcome his injury issues, the first baseman could be an effective power option off the waiver wire. Sure, he strikes out plenty, but he’s also drawing walks at a career-high rate. His BABIP is an impressive .397 and he’s slashing .320/.377/.563 on the year. Adams has already taken part in 43 games, an encouraging sign coming off his 60-game, injury-shortened 2015 campaign. Of course, the power that we’re all expecting to see at any moment is also still alive and well. This past week, he crushed a pair of home runs and drove in eight runs. Right now, he's already matching or surpassing his 2015 totals, despite having played in nearly 20 games less. Adams has never cracked 20 home runs in a campaign, but 2016 certainly looks like the year for him to accomplish the feat. What makes him such a hot commodity, however, is his sudden ability to be a good hitter, not just a young player with solid power upside. If he can maintain his successful hitting, prospective owners could be on the verge of the steal of the season.
