BALLER MOVE: Late Round Draft Target or Waiver Wire Stash
ANALYSIS: Mark Teixeira is not the player that he once was, but his power still holds some value in the middle of the Yankees order. After all, power is at an all time low, and a late round draft pick that can provide some cheap power can be useful for fantasy baseball owners.
Teixeira's batting average has plummeted since the use of the shift against him on a regular basis. Last season he finished with a .216 average, by far the lowest of his career. It is safe to say that you will not be selecting him for his ability to get on base. He has never had much speed, and with the injuries it takes a lot for him to even get a double these days (finishing with only 14 last season).
He did blast 22 home runs last season, however 17 of those came before the All Star break. Fantasy owners may want to wait to see how he handles the start of the season before picking him up on their roster, but those in deeper leagues can stash him as a flier at the end of their drafts. It is clear that age, injuries, and the shift have crushed his fantasy stock, but keep an eye on him early in the year to see if he can be picked up for some home run ability.
