BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team Leagues
OWNED IN: 4% of leagues
ANALYSIS: The Oakland Athletics are, in a word, weird. Any team that counts both Brett Anderson and Edwin Jackson as members of its starting rotation in 2018 seemingly has no business being in a wild-card spot in a top-heavy American League. But after sweeping the Blue Jays earlier this week, that's precisely where Oakland finds itself. One reason is contributions from unheralded players like Mark Canha.
Canha enjoyed some brief fantasy relevance back in 2015, when he hit 16 home runs and swiped seven bases as a part-time player. Over the next two seasons, he struggled and spent more time in the minors than with the big club. This season, however, he's hit .265/.340/.473 with 14 homers and 89 R+BI in 87 games. Those numbers would look even better if not a prolonged slump in May; Canha has hit right around .300 in all other months so far. He's also chopped several points off his strikeout rate and is slugging .526 since the start of the second half. Any way you look at it, he deserves to be owned in more leagues.
