Marcus Stroman to Lead a Leaderless Blue Jays Pitching Rotation

Once dubbed as the most Major League ready player to come out of the 2012 MLB draft, Marcus Stroman began his career bouncing around the minors, and getting suspended 50 games for taking a banned substance. He later spent time in both the minors and majors in 2014, and was suspended another five games for intentionally throwing at a batter. After a knee injury that forced him to miss most of 2015, Stroman’s presence was finally felt in the middle of September.

In four starts, Stroman went 4-0 and posted an impressive 1.67 ERA and 0.96 WHIP, averaging nearly seven innings an appearance. His success carried over into the postseason, pitching well in both of his ALDS starts, while picking up a win in his lone ALCS start. Looking to leave his tumultuous beginning in the past and build off of last season’s momentum, Stroman will lead a Blue Jay pitching rotation that lost ace David Price to the Red Sox in the offseason. Although not a huge strikeout threat, Stroman is predominantly a ground ball pitcher. The solid infield playing behind him only adds to his fantasy value. He hovers around the top-30 for pitchers and should be scooped up late in the fourth round, early in the fifth.
