Analysis: We can all laugh about Marcus Semien's bumbling efforts to play shortstop, but that isn't stopping him from hitting for nice power yet again in 2016. Semien may not be hitting more or getting on base as much as he did last year with BA and OBP of .238 and .300, but his power has jumped up a level. He is slugging .458 and has already hit 17 HR in 286 AB. Remember thinking his 15 HR in 556 AB last season were impressive? Well his current home run pace nearly doubles what he was doing in 2015. His isolated power figure is at .220, he is hitting 5.1% more fly balls, and he has become more pull-conscious as his pull percentage went from 42% last year to 43.3% this season.
Even though his OBP is low, Semien has still found time to steal bases. He has stolen five bases in six attempts for an 83.3% success rate and his power/speed number is at 7.7. Semien may not be a discipline expert at the plate or a Gold Glove winner; but with his HR% more than doubled from 2.5% to 5.4%, his XBH rate up 1.5%, and still having time to run the base paths, there are plenty of Semien's weaknesses you should be happy to ignore.
