BALLER MOVE: Add in Deeper Leagues
ANALYSIS: The White Sox have certainly had their share of injured infielders this year. With Jeff Keppinger, Gordon Beckham, and Conor Gillaspie all spending time on the disabled list this season, Marcus Semien has been the beneficiary of plenty of playing time.
For a player who would most likely be in Triple-A Charlotte if the team were completely healthy, Semien has now played in 24 of the White Sox 25 games. He has batted in the two-spot for most of the season and has shown flashes of both power and speed. Of Marcus's 23 hits this season, 8 have gone for extra bases. His stat line has upside, but also some glaring deficiencies - .219 AVG 14 R 3 HR 13 RBI 2 SB. His low batting average and 33 strikeouts are clearly not appealing, while his 14 R and 13 RBI are both impressive.
Finding a middle infielder with some pop is a fantasy luxury. In that regard, Marcus Semien definitely has fantasy value. His power, speed, and versatility make him worth owning in deeper leagues. It remains to be seen if Semien will continue to crack the lineup when Conor Gillaspie returns from the disabled list sometime next month. Owners looking for infield help could certainly benefit from Semien's play for the near future, but be ready to find a replacement as the season wears on.
