Observing NFL training camps is a hoot. Fans claw desperately at minuscule factoids in order to satisfy their thirst for football, even if the factoids mean absolute wrinkled balls on a stale cracker. Speaking of which, it’s widely known that rookie Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota has yet to throw an interception at training camp. According to NFL Insider Ian Rapoport, Mariota has, thus far, had a quite impressive offseason and has his teammates and coaching staff raving about his performance.
And? It’s f***ing training camp.
Though it must be said that by this time last year, Jake Locker had probably thrown over a dozen passes to his favorite wide receiver, the turf, before tripping over his own ingrown pinky toenail and dying so of course everyone is impressed.
There is something that generates some excitement, however: Mariota is actually competent. He’s already become a leader in the locker room and has memorized the playbook at a remarkable pace.
Let’s just see what that means when he faces J.J. “The Bone Crusher” Watt and the rest of the Houston Texans defense come Week 8.
