Fantasy Baseball Impact Of Manny Pina Being Reinstated From IL
The Oakland Athletics reinstated catcher Manny Pina from the 60-day injured list on Tuesday, per a tweet from the American League West club’s Twitter account.
The move to reinstate Pina was part of a series of roster moves made by the A’s, which also included placing fellow catcher Carlos Perez on the 10-day injured list.
Pina has yet to play in the majors this season. He appeared in five games for Atlanta last season, hitting .143 with a .235 on-base percentage, one run scored, and a pair of RBI in 17 plate appearances.
The veteran is unlikely to unseat Shea Langeliers as the starter in Oakland, but there is potential for some playing time here.
Perez appeared in 49 games, logging 140 plate appearances in the process -- he also hit .232 with a .293 on-base percentage and five home runs.
If Pina can replicate his 2021 numbers to a degree -- when he hit .189 with a .293 on-base percentage and 13 home runs in 208 plate appearances -- he could have some fantasy upside in deeper leagues. Otherwise, this is probably a situation to stay away from for fantasy managers.
Still, there’s likely only deep league fantasy upside here with Pina, especially in an Oakland lineup that entered play Tuesday with the fewest runs scored in the league.
