ANALYSIS: Mallex Smith has been on fire recently, which is why his ownership rate has skyrocketed accordingly over the last few days. If he's still floating around on your league's waiver wire, though, it's time to put in a claim. The speedy outfielder has bounced back from a June swoon in a big way; since the start of July, he's slashed an absurd .395/.485/.616 and stolen 10 bases. Seven of those swipes have come in the last 10 games. Obviously the .458 BABIP in that span is unsustainable, but there's a good bit of room for Smith to regress while still retaining fantasy value.
Given how well he's been swinging the bat and his recent promotion to the leadoff spot in the Rays' order, Smith should continue to play every day even once Tommy Pham returns from the disabled list.
