Welcome back RotoBallers to my League of Legends DFS column! We will continue to extend our analysis for LoL DFS across different leagues and sites, bringing you the insight you need to succeed. We only have a few slates left, so get in on all the LoL action you can until we have over a month off from LoL DFS contests!
After LPL finishes its spring playoffs, there will be no overnight League of Legends for us to sweat until mid-June. DraftKings has paired up the consolation (third-place match) in the LPL with the Finals for a two-game slate that is spread out over four days, while FanDuel is going to run single-game contests for each game individually.
Today, I'll be providing my League of Legends advice, analysis, and picks, for this two day LPL slate on DraftKings and the single-game contests on FanDuel that lock at 5:00 AM on Wednesday, April 29th, 2020. Make sure you are also following @Mr_Malmanger on Twitter, as he often posts starting lineups when he sees them and other useful info for the LoL slates.
Third Place Match - Wednesday, 5 AM
Invictus Gaming (-115) vs Fun Plus Phoenix (-105)
The oddsmakers have this one as a toss-up. Before starting lineups were announced, the matchups favored FPX at most positions. It’s unclear what the game plan is for either team at this time, but they could be mixing up their lineups in preparation for the world championships.
Ning hasn’t started in over a month. In the last match that Khan started, FPX lost to a team that didn’t even make the playoffs. Ning had more than 10 assists in five out of the eight games won by IG.
Even if FPX wins, that kind of upside makes Ning a good one-off on FanDuel. Unless you’re doing MME, Khan is best faded. The Lwx/Doinb combo has more upside than Puff/Rookie which is why I slightly favor FPX over IG. Both players have put up 50+ points multiple times in the past 10 games.
Puff - ADC ($7600 DraftKings / $15500 FanDuel)
Rookie - MID ($7400 DraftKings / $1400 FanDuel)
Ning - JNG ($6400 DraftKings / $7000 FanDuel)
Doinb - MID ($7000 DraftKings / $15000 FanDuel)
Lwx - ADC ($7400 DraftKings / $16000 FanDuel)
Tian - JNG ($6800 DraftKings / $13000 FanDuel)

LPL Finals - Saturday, 5 AM
Top Esports (133) vs JD Gaming (-163)
The oddsmakers have JDG as a slight favorite which sounds right. JDG has not lost a game let alone a match since Zoom came out of quarantine. For TES, this match hinges on JackeyLove. If JackeyLove plays as he did against WE, TES will be hard to beat.
This match could easily go the full five games as both teams have dominated the competition with their current lineup. The TES lineup is unlikely to be released before lock. Yuyanija will likely start at SUP but there’s still a chance that QuiQui will start.
Knight - MID ($7200 DraftKings)
JackeyLove - ADC ($7200 DraftKings)
Karsa - JNG ($6400 DraftKings)
Loken - ADC ($7800 DraftKings)
Kanavi - JNG ($7200 DraftKings)
Zoom - TOP ($6400 DraftKings)
DFS Lineup Strategy
On a two-game DraftKings slate where any team could win, the way you build your lineup can be as, if not more important than the teams you select. Avoid game stacks unless you’re doing MME. Game stacks are only optimal on a two-game slate when there is a mismatch between the two games.
The best example is on a slate with an LCK and an LPL game. These are the top four teams in the LPL so it’s less likely that one game will be slow, and the other a bloodbath. The only exception is the TEAM slot. If you are stacking favorites and salary is tight then punting with a losing TEAM can work in the right situation.
The optimal lineup construction for all but one of these LPL playoff slates has been 4/2/TEAM. Most were 4/3 with TEAM as part of the smaller stack. Most have also had a MID at CPT as it’s hard to pay up for ADC unless stacking two underdogs. Ties are very likely so entering the same lineup multiple times in a large GPP is a good strategy.
FanDuel has single-game contests for the IG vs FPX match. Khan and Ning are both priced at the minimum which opens up some strategy options. In a best of five match, optimal lineup construction is usually 4/1 (four from the winning team and one from the loser). The match would likely have to go the full five games for a 3/2 lineup to be optimal.
