BALLER MOVE: Add in All Saves Leagues
OWNED IN: 36% of Yahoo Leagues
ANALYSIS: After dominating for all of 2018, Oakland's closer Blake Treinen is now facing some potential challenges in 2019. As of this writing, it was reported yesterday that Treinen was dealing with elbow discomfort and is scheduled to be examined by team doctors on Monday. It has also since been reported that today he is feeling better, but will still be evaluated once the team returns home.
Treinen hasn't pitched since April 28th, almost an entire week, and is unavailable to pitch tonight. Logic says that he won't pitch until doctors perform their medical assessment, which potentially opens the door for setup man Lou Trivino to slide in for any near-term save chances.
In the worst case scenario, Treinen could hit the IL at which point Trivino would most likely be called upon to fill-in as the team's closer. With elite numbers both last year and this year, Trivino could immediately gain big-time value in fantasy leagues that value saves.
It's too early to say for sure how this may play out, but elbow discomfort is never what you want to hear from any pitcher. If you are in a league that values saves, Trivino is a great waiver wire add - his peripheral numbers alone can help your team's ratios, and the closing upside only increases the potential fantasy value. Trivino is only 28% owned in Yahoo leagues, so go grab him just in case.
UPDATE @ 4:30 PM: Trivino was brought into today's game and pitched the 7th and 8th innings of a ties game in scoreless fashion. Joakim Soria, who has not been very good so far this year, then pitched a clean 9th and 10th inning. This is a fluid situation to monitor.
