ANALYSIS: Tampa Bay Rays first baseman Logan Morrison is setting a career high with his home run production, as he is already up to 15 HR in 53 games. Morrison's previous career high of 24 HR took 123 games and that was back in 2011 with the Florida Marlins. This season, he has an .890 OPS and his RBI production has also accelerated, as he has 36 RBI this season, with 21 coming over the last 30 days. He has nine home runs over the last 30 days, but only a .227 batting average over that time period. LoMo is a career .244 hitter, so there's going to be a trade-off for power.
His hard hit ball percentage is a career-best 43.8% and his 45.3% fly ball percentage explains why he is able to hit so many home runs. Morrison is also pulling the ball 48.9% of the time, putting him in a position to capitalize on hitting the ball to right field. Fantasy owners can bet on Morrison's power, even if his batting average is sub-standard. The Rays lead the MLB with 88 home runs this season, so this provides an opportunity for Morrison to score and drive in runs. Morrison is a nice addition for fantasy owners that are looking for power and is a good addition as a 1B in deeper mixed leagues.
