Jon Lester has been named the Chicago Cubs’ starting pitcher for Game 1 of the NLCS on Saturday.
The Cubs await the winner of the New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers for the right to advance to the World Series. Chicago clinched its first series at home for the first time in the history of the century-old franchise on Tuesday. It can now set its starting rotation as it pleases because of the five days off.

Lester only pitched in Game 1 of the NLDS against the St. Louis Cardinals. The left-hander struck out nine and allowed three runs for the no-decision over 7 1/3 innings pitched.
Throughout his six years of pitching in the postseason, Lester owns a 6-5 record with a 2.66 ERA. The 31-year-old has pitched excellent throughout his postseason career with the Boston Red Sox. He has two World Series trophies, which makes him a great option for Game 1 while also giving an extra day’s rest to Jack Arrieta.
