ANALYSIS: For what is worth, LaMarcus Aldridge is flying completely under the radar to kick the year off and that should definitely not be the case. For some reason, Brooklyn keeps starting Blake Griffin while deploying LMA off the pine. I mean, it's working wonders for Aldridge so why change it, right? But the way in which Aldridge is completely outperforming Griffin through the first eight games of the season is pure dominance in the shape of a basketball player.
Griffin's eight games have him (using DK scoring) at a total 132.8 FP over 178 minutes of playing time, all of them starting--which has undoubtedly hurt his usage rate, sitting at a rather low 15.6%. Aldridge, in 160 minutes off the pine, has already racked up 176.3 FP to date. He's dropped below 20.3 just once compared to Griffin getting above 20.3 just twice on the season. There is no point in building a case for Griffin--it just isn't a viable pathway there.
Aldridge has scored 10+ points in all last four games averaging nearly 16 PPG. Forget about three-pointers with Aldridge (he only has two in those eight games), but count on bulky scoring tallies, more than solid shooting percentages (66.7 FG% on 10+ FGA in the past week of games--four), and good-for-a-reserve rebounding (4.8 RPG, 3+ every game) and block (1.1 BPG, 1+ every game except one) numbers. Aldridge is leading the Nets' second unit with a 24.4% usage rate in the past four games and that should only grow because his performing levels well merit it (1.18 FP/min this past week, league-average at 0.90).
